May The Spirit Of Lane Be With You, Marching Virginians Performance!

The highly anticipated halftime show May The Spirit Of Lane Be With You, performed by The Marching Virginians, will be rescheduled for September 23 at Riverbend and Colgan High School.

On Sept. 23, 2023, the Marching Virginias will attend two high school marching band competitions to perform as an exhibition. They will perform songs from their showing of May The Spirit Of Lane Be With You at Riverbend High School at 2:40 p.m. and at Colgan High School at 4:45 p.m.

“We have an opportunity to perform for a crowd of really appreciative people who really understand and love marching band,” says Polly Middleton, Director of Athletic Bands at Virginia Tech. “It's a great opportunity for us to spread awareness about our program. . . and [allows people to] get a chance to get an idea of what the Marching Virginians are about and what kind of performances we have.”

The Marching Virginias had planned to perform this special show earlier in the year. The halftime show was canceled due to a thunderstorm that hit Lane Stadium, causing an evacuation.

“We've been working on it since Bandcamp,” said Thomas Chase, a drum major in the Marching Virginians. “We just worked so hard and so long on it kind of stuck not to be able to do it. But we will be doing it again, which is good!”

The last time The Marching Virginias had an exhibition was back in 2010. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase their talent. They are determined to bring the show to a new audience with the same enthusiasm they bring to Lane Stadium.

“These are people [audience members] who might never get to come to Virginia Tech, see a halftime performance or come to a football game,” said Chad R. Reep,

Assistant Director of Athletic Bands. “We get to bring our program to them.”

The band looks forward to performing May The Spirit Of Lane Be With You on September 23. They also invite you to watch their halftime shows performed at Lane Stadium throughout the football season.
